Hamster Supply Check List

Housing
Hamsters need a minimum of 600 sq inches.  My preferred cage is a bin cage with mesh on the entire lid.  You'll need:

• A bin Sterilite 50 Gal. Stacker Box 14794K03 - The Home Depot

Bedding
Hamsters need a minimum of 5" deep bedding.  I like to use the Clean and Cozy bedding with some pine flakes mixed in. You can also add some timothy hay to help support tunnel building.  Avoid cedar and corn (kay kob) bedding as well as anything that's scented.  Also make sure there's no baking soda in the bedding.

Food
They need blocks and seeds.  I use Kalmbach personally but mazuri is ok too.

Wheel
​They need a minimum 11" upright wheel.  Don't use saucer wheels.  They cause back injuries.  If you use an exercise ball, it needs to be a minimum 11" and you MUST supervise them when they're in it.  Keep them away from stairs and space heaters, fire places, etc.
